Unitron is a Canadian hearing aid manufacturer with worldwide operations headquartered in Waterloo Region, Canada. Originally founded in 1964, we’re proud of our legacy of excellence and commitment to outstanding product performance, design, and customer satisfaction.
Our story began in the early ’60s in Newfoundland, Canada when friends and business partners Fred Stork, Rolf Strothmann and Rolf Dohmer launched their first enterprise: Universal Electronics. Initially, they offered television and radio sales and repairs, but it wasn’t long before they discovered a new opportunity. Amplification technology was quickly evolving, and Canada was an untapped market for hearing instruments.
In 1964, they formed Unitron Industries and soon moved to their new headquarters in Kitchener, Ontario – and we’ve been there ever since.

We believe that, once you put a hearing aid on you shouldn’t have to think about it until you take it off again at night. All you should experience is a life lived, enjoyed and heard in the most natural way, while in the background, your hearing aids employ the most advanced sound engine, AI powered personalisation, and seamless integration to make it happen.
A 65 YEAR JOURNEY FUELLED BY A PASSION FOR SOUND
A passion for perfecting sound has been in our DNA since 1956. Every step in our journey has been one of sound perfection – never settling for anything less than the most inspired innovations realised through the highest level of expertise. Delivering this level of sound quality takes time and dedication, which is why our products are only delivered once they satisfy our exacting standards.

Oticon’s mission began over 100 years ago. In 1904, Hans Demant wanted to help his wife Camilla live a better life, unhindered by her hearing loss. Hans helped Camilla with one of the first electronic hearing aids in the world.
From this foundation of care, Oticon grew with a passion to help people who need hearing support. We work constantly towards our vision of a world where hearing loss is no limitation. We innovate life-changing technology – and if that means we need to challenge conventions, then that is what we do.

When Uwe Fischer joined his father‘s acoustics company (which at that point sold hearing systems manufactured in the USA) in 1967, he had one primary vision: giving those affected by hearing loss a better sense of hearing – and thereby improving their quality of life. He established the company‘s in-house Research and Development department, thus laying the groundwork for high-quality hearing systems »made by HANSATON«
